Thomas Tompkins, 64, Of Rhinebeck

RHINEBECK, N.Y. – Thomas Tompkins, a lifetime resident of Rhinebeck, died Saturday, July 17. He was 64.

He was born in Rhinebeck, to George H. and Bernice (White) Werner.

Upon graduation from Rhinebeck High School, he served in the Vietnam War. He returned to Rhinebeck and worked as a security officer at several locations, the most recent being Northern Dutchess Hospital. He was a member of the Western Shooters Association and he participated in Civil War re-enactments.

He is survived by his mother; his brother, Tremper of Rhinebeck; son Benjamin Tompkinds of Alaska; and a daughter, Alicia Tompkins of Hawaii.

Visitation will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral home in Rhinebeck on Wednesday, July 20, from 6-7:30 p.m. A prayer will be offered at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home followed by military honors.
